chemical peel

A chemical peel is a strategy that enhances and clears up the skin’s texture. Usually, this treatment is done on the face, but it can also clear up scars and make them fade away as well.

A chemical peel generally removes the outermost layer of skin cells by inducing an injury to the skin with an acid-based solution. Different people show different reactions to this treatment.

Some might experience pain during recovery, while others notice no pain. Likewise, some will find lighter, softer-looking skin within the first treatment, while others will need multiple treatments to see significant improvements.

Chemical peels are available to buy or administer yourself without a medical license. Still, it is highly advised you consult with a doctor before having one done because many different types come with unique risks or side effects depending on your needs and individual preferences.

Types

α hydroxy acid peels

Alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs) are naturally surfacing carboxylic acids such as glycolic acid and lactic acid. These are the mildest peel formulas for rejuvenating the skin; they lighten skin tone, reduce wrinkles and provide relief from pimples.

There are five usual fruit acids: citric acid, glycolic acid, lactic acid, malic acid, and tartaric acid.

β hydroxy acid peels

Beta Hydroxy Acids are chemical compounds that are secreted naturally within the body. There is limited data available to support its efficacy as an antibacterial agent – but Salicylic acid does have therapeutic benefits against inflammation caused by either bacteria or allergy, which can lead to inflammatory conditions such as acne.

Many other alpha hydroxy acids exist, including 3-hydroxybutyric or 3-hydroxyvaleric acid, which can be derived from soybeans or palm oil.

Although AHA peels aren’t good at reducing wrinkles, they will make them less prominent, and this treatment is only recommended for individuals who want to maintain healthy-looking skin. It’s straightforward to find these treatments at home too!

As a result, it works well for those who suffer from acne-related breakouts and can even help reduce redness. And since salicylic acid is oil-soluble, it makes sense why people would use this type of compound over Alpha Hydroxy Acids – because they’re less likely to cause excessive dryness.

Retinoic acid peel

Retinoic acid is a retinoid. This deep-seated peel removes everything from acne and acne scars to wrinkles – even skin tone. It may be done in a plastic surgeon’s office, an oral/maxillofacial surgeon, or a dermatologist at a medical spa setting.

Jessner peel is often done before this procedure to open up pores for further penetration. Clients leave with the chemical peel solution still on their faces; peeling will occur within three days if there are no complications or other procedures scheduled afterward that require using different equipment. For dramatic changes, multiple peels are often needed over time.
